We are in the business of changing lives

"When I started out as a life and disability insurance lawyer, I thought I was using my skills to distribute funds from superannuation providers to people in need. It quickly took on other dimensions.

I became a support person, legal strategist and client advocate. I also realised how vital my health background was in asking the 'right' questions, interpreting medical evidence and getting results - where other lawyers were unable to and at much faster rates.

My clients, more than anyone, encouraged me to establish Maddox & Associates."

Dr Atticus Maddox

Principal Lawyer

BA(Hons), GDLP, GDRC, MBA, JD, PhD

Maddox & Associates is uniquely placed to deliver customised legal services in life insurance and superannuation to clients in every state and territory.

The practice is directed by Atticus Maddox. Her insights are shaped by a combination of academic training, time spent in the superannuation division of a big four bank and experience working for two national law firms, where she managed litigated and non-litigated TPD claims valued up to four million dollars.

Atticus has a track record of obtaining maximum settlements in high net-worth and complex cases, including matters that other solicitors and barristers have considered non-meritorious. Her previous clients have included surgeons, academics, engineers, marketing executives, teachers, military personnel, police officers and construction workers.

Prior to commencing her legal career, Atticus taught health at undergraduate level and worked as an occupational health researcher at The University of Sydney. In 2012, Atticus was awarded an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Grant Scholarship to investigate workplace violence in the aged care sector. This empirical research stimulated an interest in the role of the law, structural vulnerability and determinants of health at work.

An avid learner, Atticus undertook a PhD at the University of Sydney whilst concurrently completing a Juris Doctor at the University of New South Wales. She also holds a Master of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma of Rehabilitation, Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Post Graduate Certificate in Commerce and Bachelor of Arts (Honours).
